May reviews Montagne Jeunesse masks

Like Mack, I love to treat myself to a face mask at least once a week. I have a couple of favourites but also love having in a selection of Montage Jeunesse masks so that I have options and can pick the one that I feel like using each time.  I remember using these as a teenager, and still love picking through the choices today.

These masks are readily available in most pharmacies and supermarkets and cost around £1. You can also order directly online (currently with free delivery over £15). If you're sparing with them, you can just about make each sachet last for 2 masks, which makes them even more of a bargain.

The company claims that its products are cruelty-free and made with natural ingredients.  All ingredients are listed on the website.

May's stationery obsession...

My name is May and I have an addiction to stationery. There, I've said it and I know I'm not alone.

I love notebooks, because I love making lists. I love calendars and planners and thinking I'm organised. I love having new pens to make work notes look more interesting. I love sending letters and cute cards to friends. I could go on...

Rather than give you a tour of every notebook I have lying around the house, I thought I'd list (see, I cant stop!), my top 5 places to shop for a stationery hit, at any budget.

Mack on ways to curb your chocolate addiction

One of my New Years resolutions is to give up chocolate. I am not sure what exactly possessed me to come up with that idea, but it seemed a better prospect than a gym membership at the time.
I have to admit I am was a chocoholic.  Terry's chocolate orange with the fizzy exploding candy was my preferred fix.  It is simply the Alton Towers of chocolate!  My attempts to ration myself to just one slice would always fail.  I knew I had to do something about this crazy addiction when I found myself creeping into my living room and stealing the Terry's chocolate orange from my 5-year old son's Christmas stocking.  After a few slices, I was overcome with guilt and I put the rest back in the foil wrapper and box, making sure I slightly spaced out some slices to hide the gaps.  Luckily, I was able to convince my son on Christmas Day that Santa was extra hungry after delivering all of the presents to children around the world.

Anyway, I am 19 days into chocolate rehab.  So far, all is going well thanks to a few ways to beat those chocolate cravings which I have discovered for when a handful of almonds is just not enough...

Mack on Zulily

There are a few key things I look forward to every morning: when my young children rush in to greet me "Good Morning" with their half-sleepy smiles, a good strong cup of tea and finally, my daily email from the online store, Zulily, which brings me news of impressive deals on high-quality, top-branded fashion, kids and home ware.
I love the fact that Zulily offers products from both classic top brands (such as Regatta, Disney) and from boutique-type brands which I may have never otherwise heard of.  Zulily says it is able to offer amazing deals to its members as it bulk-buys from the top brands. Just looking at today's deals, for example, I can see that prices are roughly marked down by around 30 to 65%.  Stock is limited, the items are on sale for a set number of days only and it is common for items to sell out.

May reviews My Little Box

picture of 4 boxesMack and I are slightly obsessed with beauty boxes. Our addiction started with Glossybox, and between us (mostly Mack!) I think we have been subscribed to pretty much all of those that ship to the UK at some point or other.

You may have already read Mack's posts on Memebox. Mack finds these a brilliant way of discovering and testing out new products and loves being able to hunt for the perfect box depending on whether she is after skincare, haircare, face masks or whatever else takes her fancy. I, on the other hand, am hopeless at making decisions and love receiving a surprise box each month with handpicked products and treats without any hard work from me. Whilst I loved that element of Glossybox, I found that I was getting inundated with make up in colours that weren't right for me, and I knew I would never use. I therefore gave up the subscription after a year or so. A few months ago, however, I came across a Lily Pebbles vlog in which she went to Paris and talked about My Little Box, which was going to start shipping to the UK in September 2014...

May loves winter!

I am not a fan of summer. Or spring. What's more, I don't feel guilty or miserable or wrong or anything else that people usually think I should feel when I say I am an autumn and winter person.

Don't get me wrong, there are things I love about the warmer months, but the hayfever, the heat, the sweating on crowded public transport....no, not for me.

I promise I'm not just a fan of the colder months because of my birthday and Christmas being in December (although they both score very highly). I love making my house cosy with blankets and twinkly lights. I love roaring log fires. I love fresh, crisp mornings. I love hibernating over the Christmas break in my pyjamas with tins of chocolate, The Holiday and Chalet Girl, I love the colour of trees when they are turning red and golden. I love wandering on deserted sandy beaches, wrapped up against the wind. I love roast dinners in the pub with friends on Sundays.

I hope you enjoy these pictures taken last Sunday morning, as the sun was trying it's hardest to burn off the fog.

Mack reviews Aveda's Dry Remedy Daily Moisturization Oil

Sometimes I feel like I'm in a human hamster wheel when it comes to looking after my hair.  I want long, healthy, luscious locks with a rich warm brown tone to add a subtle glimmer to my very dark hair.  However, constantly trying to maintain a hair colour different to my natural black hair and covering the grey that is now sprouting in abundance since hitting my mid-30's, has meant that I am colouring my hair every 4 weeks.  Plus, I need to use a number of heated devices everyday to keep my hair under some form of control.  All this has led to frizzier hair with sahara-desert dry ends.  Not quite the Cheryl Fernandez-Versini or Nicole Scherzinger hair look I was hoping for.

On my last London shopping spree, I was on a mission to find something non-greasy and effective which I could use every day in my hair to keep it sleeker, smoother and frizz-free and which is suitable for colour-treated hair.

Happy New Year from Mack and May!

At the risk of sounding (even) older than our years, or trotting out a terrible cliché, what the heck happened to 2014? We have both said recently that it seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. Nonetheless, it was a year of positives overall for us and we hope it was for you too. Now though, to look forward to what the new year might bring.

We have written some New Year's resolutions which we really are going to try and keep to for longer that just the first week of January. We have tried to make them realistic and achievable. Wish us luck! Ours are below, and we'd love to hear yours.
