May's Monthly best bits - September

We are back rounding up of some of our 'best bits' from the month.... Just like a monthly favourites (which we love reading about!) but looking beyond make up and beauty products.  We'll look at our favourite days out, purchases, meals, movies....whatever made the month for us!  Some bits that are mentioned might feature in a more detailed post, but we thought it would be fun to have a quick round-up of our monthly highlights to look back on, and maybe inspire you for the month ahead....

This month May shares her new favourite long-lasting lip product, her love of Strictly and highlights of a quick trip to Malta.

Best make-up discovery - Maybelline Superstay 24 Color

photo of maybelline 24 lip colourI haven't tried too much new make up recently (apart from a sneaky purchase of a new Mac eyeshadow in Satin Taupe - a definite second favourite purchase!) but I bought a couple of the Maybelline Superstay 24 Color lipsticks on a whim recently and absolutely love them.

I bought colours 340 Absolute Plum (bottom) and 185 Rose Dust (top).

They are a double-ended product, with one end being the colour, which you apply with a  doe-foot applicator, and the other being a clear balm. The colour goes on as a bit of a tacky, matte product but dries off very quickly, at which point you apply the balm.

As long as you keep topping up the balm throughout the day to refresh it, the colour really does stay put all day, and doesn't transfer or smudge - and I don't often find that to be the case with lip products that claim to do so.

I haven't seen too much about these products elsewhere, but if you're looking for a long wearing lip colour then I would definitely recommend these.

Best on TV - Strictly Come Dancing

Woohoo - Strictly is back! I'm definitely a 'Strictly over X-Factor' kinda girl. Give me the sequins and spray tans any day! The return of Strictly is a welcome reminder to me that autumn is here and we can get settled into some cosy evening on the sofa watching the amazing professional dancers and their celeb partners waltzing and jiving around to entertain us. I can't say that I have got any early favourites yet this year (unless I can vote for Claudia?). Seeing as I don't watch soaps I haven't heard of half of the celebs, but I say that every year and always get sucked into it and end up not wanting it to end. Are you watching it? Who are you routing for?

Best times - my holiday in Malta

photo of vallettaMr M and I recently spent 5 days in Malta, staying in the capital city, Valletta. We had a lovely time enjoying the sunshine, food and scenery. The country is a melting pot of lots of different cultures, which is reflected in everything from the cuisine to the language.

There are some amazing sights - we were lucky enough to get tickets to see the Hypogeum, an underground prehistoric burial site, and enjoyed trips to Mdina, with its quaint winding streets, and Marsaxlokk, with its brightly coloured fishing boats, to name a couple.

Valletta itself is a fascinating city - its the European Capital of Culture for 2018 - although for a capital city it is tiny: you can walk from one end to the other in 15 minutes (although the steep hills make you work for it!).

If you find yourself there, I would definitely recommend the pasta at Papannis in Valletta - heavenly!

Yes please to some more European mini breaks...
